About Question enthuware.ocajp.i.v7.-2-.1225 :

Post by Vermeulen »

I've already replied to two other questions with a similar remark, so this will be my last one about the same subject. Several questions are marked "Easy" or "Very easy" (like this question).

I actually didn't find these questions easy at all. All of them rely on having some very detailed knowledge about how Java happens to be implemented. Details which you may never even encounter in practice, or do not need in practice because the compiler immediately tells you what is wrong.

Is it true that you simply don't consider having detailed knowledge to be part of the question's difficulty? And instead only consider the amount of logical thinking it takes to answer the question?

As replied to your previous post regarding the toughness rating, it is subjective and is given by the author as per his/her judgement. There is no objective criteria. It is possible that for questions that based only on some information (instead of any logical thinking) are marked Easy or Very Easy. While questions that require multiple pieces of information or require some logical understanding are rated higher.

Ok thank you. Yes it helps, I'll stop posting these comments :). I agree it's fairly subjective and you can argue that some of these questions are easy provided you know the crucial bit of information.

When I hit the "discuss" link for question ocajp.i.v8.2.1225, I am directed to a page discussing the question rating system.

Is there a post explaining why java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException is not a correct answer as this is the exception that is thrown by the charAt() method.

Even i get got StringIndexOutOfBoundsException. We are accessing invalid position of String and not char.
Invalid position of char should throw IndexOutOfBoundsException. Is that correct ?
