in what situation will equals return true while the hashcode is different in any of the other answers?

In no situation does that happen. That is why option 5 is correct. It says "None of these are invalid". It would be better if it said all of the above are valid.

thanks, I did indeed mis-read the last answer. As a non english speaking person "all of the above are valid." is indeed more clear then the double negative.
