Somehow it is a discrepancy between this question and enthuware.jwpv6.2.790. Both questions are asking practically the same thing, but one question states that request is thread safe and the other question that it is not.
I believe the statement of this question should be enhanced with the information that the servlet is not configured in the DD to support asynchronous processing.
