The following steps are for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Not for iOS or Android.
- Download etsviewer.jar from http://enthuware.com/etsviewer/etsviewer.jar and save it to a non-system folder.(Download blocked by your firewall?) You can save it to c:\downloads
(or /Users/<your_username>/Downloads or ~/Downloads on Mac). After this step, you should have etsviewer.jar in c:\downloads
Open your File Explorer and see that it is there. - Now, if your system already has JDK installed correctly and if the default action/program associated with Jar files on your system is to open them with the installed JDK, you may simply double click on etsviewer.jar to launch it. Note that if the default program or action associated with Jar files on your system is to step down into the jar file, your system will show you the contents of etsviewer.jar file instead of launching the ETSViewer application. This is not a error. Either associate jar files with the installed JDK or do a SHIFT + right click on the jar file and select the Open With menu option. Then select the java.exe that is present under your JDK installation, for example, under C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-17.0.3\bin. See this for Ubuntu. You may also a launch ETSViewer manually through the command line as explained below.
Mac OS has recently disabled this mode of launching unverified apps directly. So, if you are on a Mac, instead of double click, do CONTROL + click on etsviewer.jar in the File Explorer. This will pop up a menu with "Open With" option. Click on that option and select "Java" from the resulting list of applications. That's it. It will launch the ETS Viewer application. - Launching ETS Viewer manually from command line: You may also open a command prompt and cd to the directory where you have downloaded etsviewer.jar. i.e. c:\>cd downloads (or cd ~/Downloads on Mac).
After this step, you should be on the command prompt in c:\downloads directory.
Now execute the jar using the following command on the command prompt:
c:\downloads\>java -jar .\etsviewer.jar
This should launch ETS Viewer software.
(If you get any error message, you probably do not have JDK installed on your machine. Please see this.)
(This option will not work on a Mac because Mac OS prevents unverified apps from executing directly. You will most likely get a message "Unable to access Jar file.) - You will see the following screen.
Click on the Full or Trial version of the certification you want to use. ETS Viewer will download the appropriate question bank file from our server and open it. - If you are behind a proxy or if your firewall is blocking ETS Viewer from downloading the file, you may download it yourself from our Downloads page.
This page has Trial as well as Full versions of all the question banks. License is NOT required to download the full versions. So, pick the one you are interested in and save to any directory.
Let's say you download JA+ V8 Trial Question Bank and save it to it to c:\downloads directory.
After this step, you should have a question bank file with extension .ets in c:\downloads - Click on the File -> Open menu of ETS Viewer. It will pop up a File browser, which you can use to browse to and select the Question Bank file that you downloaded.
- A License dialog as shown below will pop up. If you are using trial version, just enter your emailid and name and download the license. If you have purchased a license, you may either directly enter the license key or just enter your orderid and emailid and download the license.
- This is how it looks after successful installation:

Our Question Banks contain questions organized as Standard Tests. These tests mimic the real test in terms of content and toughness. If you have experience with the technology, you may start directly with these tests. Otherwise, you should first study all the exam objectives from a book. You should also write lot of test programs to solidify your understanding of various concepts.
Once you are comfortable with all the topics, you should start with the first Standard Test. Your score on this test will tell you how well you are prepared for the actual test. You should make a note of all the topics on which you score less and study them from a book. After going through the book, review all the questions of the test one by one and read the explanation for each question, including the questions that you answered correctly, and then attempt the next Standard Test.
Our explanations are really thorough. You should not be surprised to find them more informative than even some books. So please make sure you go through all of them.
Important - If you fail a Standard Test, you should NEVER attempt the next Standard Test before going through a book and learning about the topics on which you scored less. If you move to the next test before doing that, then you will not be able to perform well on the real test.
Taking the same test twice -
You should never take the same Standard Test twice. This is because you will inadvertently remember the answers and you will invariably score a lot higher on this attempt. This creates a false sense of confidence, which will cause you a problem in the real test. Remember, your objective is to improve your score on the subsequent tests not on the same test.
Best of Luck!

Should I use Standard Tests or Objective-wise Tests?
Updated: 15 June 2020
7987 hits
Standard Tests and Objective-wise Tests are two different ways of accessing the same set of questions. You should use only one type of tests. In other words, if you take all of the Standard Tests, you would have seen all the questions in the question bank. You will NOT see any new question if you then take Objective-wise tests. Similarly, if you take Objective-wise tests, you will not see new questions in Standard Tests. For the same reason, you should not rely on the score of Standard Tests, if you have already attempted Objective wise tests.
When to take Standard Tests
Standard Tests tests mimic the real test in terms of content and toughness. If you have experience with the technology, or if you are already done with your preparation from a book, you may start directly with these tests. You should start with the first Standard Test. This creates a false sense of confidence, which will cause you a problem in the real test. Remember, your objective is to improve your score on the subsequent test, not on the same test.
When to take Objective-wise Tests
If you are just starting your preparation from a book and if you want to test your knowledge on a particular chapters, you may use the respective Objective wise test.Important - We do not recommend relying on the scores obtained in Objective wise tests because they do not simulate the real exam. There is no guarantee that you will pass the real exam even if you pass a few of Objective wise tests. This mode of preparation is helpful only when you are going through a training program and being guided appropriately by a teacher.

All I have got is a *.ets file. What do I do with it? How do I open it?
Updated: 15 June 2020

An ETS file is a data file, similar to a .doc or a .pdf file. Just like you need Microsoft Word or Acrobat Reader to open a .doc or a .pdf file, you need Enthuware Test Studio Viewer (ETS Viewer) to open a .ets file. Please download and install ETS Viewer and use its File->Open menu to open the ETS file.
Enthuware Test Studio is an integrated environment that allows you to prepare for certification exams. Using ETS, you can access ETS Question Banks, which include Mock Questions, Exam Tips, Reference URLs, and Study Material. While Enthuware provides ETS Question Banks for several Certification exams, any independent vendor may provide an ETS Question Bank tailored for any specific certification exam.
How to deal with out of syllabus questions?
Updated: 15 June 2020
12184 hits
You may sometimes encounter questions in our question bank that require you to know about topics that are not mentioned explicitly in official exam objectives.
The reason such questions are there is because we have seen candidates appearing in the exam getting questions on such topics. We conduct classroom training and we get direct feedback from our test taker about this. We also monitor forums for such mentions. We try our best to make sure that our users are fully prepared for the exam and for this reason we do include such questions that may seem to be on the topics that are not on the exam even though it increases our support costs due to users raising questions about the quality of our content.
It is very easy for us to remove these questions to avoid such queries altogether but we prefer to keep these questions in the best interests of our users. This differentiates us from certification preparation books because they are static. They cannot change their content to match the current set of questions asked in the real exam once they are published.
There are three reasons why such questions come up in the real exam -
1. The official exam objectives do not always mention all the topics in detail.
2. New questions are added to the real exam from time to time and they sometimes deviate from the official exam objectives.
3. New questions are added to the real exam on new topics for test purposes. Test takers are not graded on these questions but they don't know which questions in the exam are not graded. While taking a test, you should assume that you will be graded on all questions.
So if you are following a book and if you see a topic in our question bank but not in a book, we would suggest you to at least read the explanation given with the question in our question bank. You may read up on that topic from another resource if you have time. But don't ignore it completely. Rest assured that you are not wasting your time with our material.
All the best!

ETS Viewer is a viewer, just like Acrobar Reader. It does not contain any data. You need to use File->Open menu of ETS Viewer and open an ETS file (a file with extension ets) file. You can download ETS files from the Downloads page. Please download Full version of the ETS file, if you have purchased a Full version or Trial version otherwise.

Your Reference Number (aka Order ID/Number), which looks like ENT1202031234 is the registration code. This and the email that you gave while ordering are the only two things that you require to activate the product. Please see this for Step by Step installation procedure. For your convenience, we email the license to you as soon as your order is processed. Please check your junk mail folder as it might have gone there. If you have lost it, you just need your Reference Number and Email Id to be entered into ETS License dialog box to let it download the license automatically.
If you do not receive Reference Number and/or License from us within 2 hrs of purchase, please contact us immediately so that we can investigate the issue.

Are the questions repeated if I take a test multiple times?
Updated: 29 March 2021
17351 hits
Short answer : Yes.
Long answer :We have categorized tests into various categories - Standard Tests and (optionally) Practice Tests, Objective-wise Tests, and Leitner Mode.
Standard Tests are meant to cover all the questions in the question bank. That is, if you take all the Standard Tests, you would see all the questions in the question bank. Practice Tests select random questions of a particular toughness level from the same question bank. Objective wise tests select random questions of any toughness level from the same question bank. Leitner mode is an entirely different style of attempting the same questions in the question bank.
Each Standard Test is unique among Standard Tests. That is, no question is repeated in Standard Tests. However, if you take any other kind of test after taking all the Standard Tests, you will not see any new question.
Similarly, if you mix tests of different categories, some question will be repeated. For example, if you take a Practice Test or an Objective-wise test, or a test in Leitner Mode after taking a Standard Test, you may see questions that you have already seen in the Standard Test. Also, since Practice Tests and Objective wise Tests pick questions randomly from the question bank, if you take a Practice Test or an Objective-wise Test multiple times, some questions will be repeated.
So which mode should I use?
Generally, students judge their level of preparation by the scores they get on the mock exams. But these scores will not be able to indicate that correctly, if the student has already seen all/some of the questions. Since practice/objective wise tests select questions randomly from the same set of questions, if you take Standard Tests after taking practice/objectivewise tests, you may already know answers to some of the questions and so, your score on the standard tests may not reflect your preparation level accurately. That is why we suggest that you take only the tests that match the mode of your preparation. For example, if you are done with your studies, you should only take the Standard Tests one by one. If you are going through a book and want to solidify your understanding of a particular chapter/objective, you may use the Objective-wise tests. If you want to check if you are an expert or not, you may use Practice Tests. But if you take Practice/Objective wise tests, do not rely on the scores to judge if you are ready for the real exam or not.
If your question bank contains "Last Day Test (Unique)", you may take this test even after taking other tests because questions in this test are explicitly excluded from all other tests (except Leitner Mode). This is done so that even if you take Practice tests or Objective wise tests, you will still have one Standard Test which will give you a true picture of your preparation.
For the same reason, you should not take a Standard Test more than once because a Standard Test contains preset questions and if you take the test again, you will get the same questions. The score that you get will therefore not indicate your true level of preparation.
Can I take the same Test again?/How many times can I take a Standard Test?
You can take any test any number of times. However, you should not take a Standard Test more than once because a Standard Test contains preset questions and if you take the test again, you will get the same questions. The score that you get will therefore not indicate your true level of preparation. Link to this FAQInstallation
Firewall is blocking etsviewer.jar from downloading
Updated: 09 January 2019

If your firewall is not letting you download etsviewer.jar, here is an easy way to get it:
1. Download etsviewer.txt file and save it as etsviewer.txt on your machine. This text file is produced by base 64 encoding the etsviewer.jar file. If it opens up in the browser, do a right click on the text and select "Save As".
2. Run the following Java code to convert the text file into a jar file:
import java.io.*; import java.nio.file.*; public class ETSViewerTxtToJar { public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { byte[] data = Files.readAllBytes(Paths.get("etsviewer.txt")); data = java.util.Base64.getDecoder().decode(data); Files.write(Paths.get("etsviewer.jar"), data, new OpenOption[]{StandardOpenOption.CREATE, StandardOpenOption.TRUNCATE_EXISTING}); } }The above code simply decodes the base 64 encoded text file and saves it as a jar file. You can copy the above code into a java file (or download it ETSViewerTxtToJar.java), compile it, and run it from the same directory where you saved the etsviewer.txt file. Link to this FAQ
It is not working!!!
Updated: 26 June 2021
26744 hits
ETS Viewer is a pure Java application. If you have JDK/JRE correctly installed on your machine, it WILL work. Here is what you should do if you have any problem running ETS Viewer:
1. Open up a DOS/command prompt:
Go to Start -> Run, then type cmd and hit enter key. Your command prompt should be showing something like: c:\>. On Linux, please open a terminal window.
2. Run etsviewer.jar from the command prompt :
If, for example, you have etsviewer.jar in c:\downloads, you can run the following command:
c:\downloads>java -jar .\etsviewer.jar
(You can download etsviewer.jar from here.)
The message on the command prompt will tell you the exact cause of the problem. Usually, it is either Java is not found or etsviewer.jar not found, which you can easily fix by adding your Java installation's bin folder in your PATH variable and giving the full path to etsviewer.jar, i.e. c:\>java -jar c:\downloads\etsviewer.jar
If there is any other issue, please send the error message to us and we will be happy to help you out.
3. Although ETS Viewer does NOT require admin privileges, sometimes starting up the command prompt as admin helps.
4. Check your Java installation :
Try running 'java -version' ( c:>java -version ) and hit enter. It should say something like:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
This means JDK 1.6 is installed properly on your system.
If it says something like:
The name specified is not recognized as as internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Java has not been found on your computer. Do you want to download it?
OR IF IT SAYS:
Bad Command or file name.
This means that either java is not at all installed or java.exe is not in the path. If you are sure that it is installed then try:
c:> echo %PATH% (Or echo $PATH on Unix)
See if C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_04\bin (or the bin directory where you have java.exe) is there in the path.
If it is not, add it in the environment variables (Win2000: Start->Settings->Control Panel-> System->Environment tab, WinXP: Start->Control panel-> System ->Advanced ->Environment Variables tab) .
Open up a new DOS window and repeat the above process.
I get "Error: Invalid or Corrupt jar file"
Please make sure your download is complete. To verify, you can extract the contents of the jar file using any archiving utility such as WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. If the file is corrupt, you won't be able to extract it. You may also try to download etsviewer.jar from this alternate location.
My Anti-virus has flagged etsviewer.jar for some virus. Is it clean?
We have observed that a few Antivirus software report etsviewer.jar as having a Virus. Specifically, they report EXP/JAVA.Noiphe.Gen, Java:Malware-gen [Trj], Java.Trojan.Agent.6YRV78, and Java.Malware.
We have investigated this and we have determined that it is flagged because the class files in the jar are obfuscated. This is a false positive and there is no virus or malware in etsviewer.jar. We have also reported this to the anti virus makers.

Here is online Virus Scan Result of etsviewer.jar from Virus Total.
Use a Security Manager
If you are concerned about any fishy activity by the ETS Viewer s/w, you may run it in a sandbox using a Security Manager like this:java -Djava.security.manager -Djava.security.policy=c:\user\johndoe\downloads\etsviewer.policy.txt -jar c:\user\johndoe\downloads\etsviewer.jarHere is the etsviewer.policy.txt policy file that grants the required permissions.
When I try to run it from command line, I get "Error: Invalid or Corrupt jar file"
Please make sure your download is complete. To verify, you can extract the contents of the jar file using any archiving utility such as WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. If the file is corrupt, you won't be able to extract it. You may also try to download etsviewer.jar from this alternate location. We have changed the extension of the file to renametojar so that you can download it. Once downloaded, please change the extension back to jar to run it.
Link to this FAQI am trying to open a .ets file using ETS Viewer but it is asking for a license key. How do I get it?
Updated: 16 January 2019
185874 hits
There are two ways to get a license:
- Let the ETS Viewer download it automatically. Once you purchase an ETS Question Bank from us, you will get an Order ID (It looks like ENT120122-1234-12345 or M01292838389) in your email. You should supply this order id and your emailid (the one which you gave at the time of purchase) to the 'Automatic Licensing' tab and click 'Download License'. ETS Viewer will download the license key from our License Server and you will be all set. See step by step instructions.
For a Trial Version, a trial Order ID is populated by default, or you can get the trial OrderIds from the downloads page.
- Please send an email to with your Order ID in the subject.
For trial license, just specify the exam code (e.g. 1Z0-804) in the subject (All CAPS).
If your order has multiple licenses, please specify the email id given while ordering in the subject after Order Id e.g. ENT120122-1234-12345, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Enter the license key that you get in the email in ETS Viewer Manual Licensing tab.
The license that I received from you is not working. What should I do?
Updated: 08 September 2018
10439 hits
The license is in plain text format. Sometimes, email programs try to format it by inserting new lines while displaying the email, this causes ETS Viewer to not recognize the license. Please view the email as plain text while copying the license. You can also do "view source" on the email to see the license key in original format.
We also attach the license key as a zip file attachment with the email that we send after processing your order. You can extract license.txt from the zip file, open the text file in notepad, and copy the license.
Please note that Trial License does not work with full version of the question bank and vice-versa. So please make sure you are using the right version of the question bank. You may download the appropriate version of the question bank file from our Help/All Downloads page.
Usually, the error message is quite descriptive. So if it still does not work, please let us know the error message so that we can help.

ETS Viewer freezes up upon opening a file on Mac
Updated: 14 July 2018
11165 hits
I am using Mac Mountain Lion. I tried using File -> Open menu to open an ETS file and the application froze. What should I do?
We have seen this issue with some versions of JDK or when there is lack of appropriate permissions. ETS Viewer needs read/write access to the folder when you've saved the ets file. Please try running ETS Viewer as admin/root. It doesn’t really need admin rights but for some reason, on some versions of Mac OS, it just hangs without admin access.
Another option is to just specify the ets file on Terminal/Command line itself:
java –jar ./etsviewer.jar /path/to/japv7.ets
OR - to run it as admin or root -
sudo java –jar ./etsviewer.jar /path/to/japv7.ets
This should take care of the issue. The above command assumes that etsviewer.jar is in your current directory. Be sure to replace /path/to/japv7.ets with the actual path to the ets file on your machine that you are trying to option. Link to this FAQ
What files do I need to backup if I have to re-install?
Updated: 21 October 2018

- You should back up your "work folder" as it contains your performance history. Although the s/w will work fine even if you don't back it up.
See this image to see the location of the work folder:
You can simply zip up this folder to back up your test history. Unzit it and set the unzipped folder as your work folder through ETS Viewer, if you ever need to see it again.
- You should also backup up etsviewer.jar and the question bank file (the one with extension .ets). Both can be downloaded from our site as well.
- After installation, it will ask for the license. You should also backup the license from the current installation by going to Tools -> Question Bank License Information (Manual). Just copy and paste the license to a text file and use it later.

When you open a Question Bank for the first time, ETS Viewer asks for the Public Key of the author of the Question Bank to verify its authenticity. Public Key is NOT same as the license key. The URL from where you can get the public key is specified in the same dialog box. If you skip this step, the above mentioned message is displayed. Next time, when you are asked to enter the Public Key, please follow the steps that are mentioned in the dialog box and you should be ok. In general, the warning does not affect the functionality of the s/w.

How to use Leitner Mode effectively?
Updated: 18 April 2021
1917 hits
Using Leitner Mode while attemping Java Certification Mock Questions
The most common way to check how well you are prepared for an exam is to attempt mock exams that are similar to the real exam and simulating test environment at home. In some cases, however, this method is not very suitable. For example, when you can't take two hours at a continuous stretch out of your busy schedule, or when you are going through other study material and you want to attempt the questions on the topic that you just studied. It is also unsuitable if you are an experienced programmer already and you just want to fill the gaps in your knowlegdge by attempting as many questions on a given topic as you can whenever you get time. Sometimes, you just want to attempt questions and see the answer immediately after answering each question without going through the whole test. Leitner Mode is perfect for such situations.Leitner Mode
Leitner System is a method used to efficiently learn flashcards and was proposed by German science popularizer Sebastian Leitner in the 1970s. In this method, known as the Leitner system, flashcards are sorted into groups according to how well you know each one in the Leitner's learning box. When you are shown a flash card, you try to recall the solution written on a flashcard. If you succeed, you put the card to the next group/level. But if you fail, you put it back to the first group. Each succeeding group has a longer period of time before you are required to revisit the cards. For example, suppose you have 3 groups called Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3. The cards in Group 1 are the ones that you often make mistakes with, and Group 3 contains the cards that you know very well. You might choose to study the Group 1 cards once a day, Group 2 every 3 days, and the Group 3 cards every 5 days. If you look at a Group 1 card and get the correct answer, you "promote" it to Group 2. A correct answer with a Group 2 card "promotes" that card to Group 3. If you make a mistake with a Group 2 or Group 3 card, it gets "demoted" to the first level, which forces you to study that card more often. The advantage of this method is that you can focus on the most difficult flashcards, which remain in the first few groups.
The result is, ideally, a reduction in the amount of study time needed.
How to use Leitner Mode in Enthuware Test Studio
Enthuware Test Studio allows you to learn in Leitner Mode. Here, Questions are treated as flash cards. When you first open the Leitner Mode, you will see four columns - Unlearned, Level 1, Level 2, and Learned. All the questions initially categorized as Unlearned. Click on Start Learning to start a learning session. You can customize the session to focus on a level, section or duration. If you answer a question correctly, it will be promoted to the next level and if you answer it wrong, it will be demoted to Unlearned level. Depending on how much time you have, your goal should be to move all the questions to "Learned" level. However, if you are short on time, you should at least move all the questions to Level 1.
Another great feature in ETS Viewer's Leitner Mode is that you can also go through all the questions that you have missed earlier in other tests. For example, if you have take some standard tests earlier and if you now want to re-do all the questions that you failed to answer correctly, you can use the Leitner mode to zone in on such questions using the Focus On drop down.
Once you use it, you will realize that Leitner mode is a very power tool for optimizing your time while studying for OCP Java Certification exams. Link to this FAQ
How do I create customized tests in ETS Viewer?
Updated: 17 November 2020
1471 hits
Although Enthuware question banks contain several pre-configured tests such as Standard Tests as well as Objective-wise (aka topic wise) tests, you may create customized tests in ETS Viewer desktop application (not in web application). This feature is useful when you want to create a test on multiple topics or a test with a particular toughness level.
The following screenshots explain how to do so:
Important: Note that questions for all kinds of tests come from the same question bank. Different types of tests are just different ways of viewing the same set of questions. Thus, if you take an Objective-wise/topic wise test or a custom test, and then take a Standard Test, some questions may be repeated because Objective-wise tests select random questions on a given topic, while Standard Tests contain a hardcoded list of question ids.
Standard Tests are unique in themselves. That is, every Standard Tests contains a different set of questions. Taking all of the Standard Tests ensures that you will see all of the questions available in the question bank. If you take an objective-wise test after taking all of the standard tests, you will NOT see any new question. Link to this FAQ
Font size is too small

The font size of ETS Viewer is too small. How can I increase it?
Screen resolutions vary quite a lot and so it is possible that on some machines the default font size may look too small or too big. To alter the font size, you may either use Tools -> Font Size menu for small changes or you may run ETS Viewer with a command line option that allows you to alter the font size like this:java -DfontSizeIncrement=10 -jar etsviewer.jar
You can specify however large increment you want in the font size.
If you have a high resolution/4K monitor that is causing the ETS window to become very small, try these solutions. Link to this FAQ
Tracking progress while using multiple machines

I may work on Enthuware tests from a desktop at a library or from my laptop at Starbucks, etc. and at night from my computer at home. Can I continue with an existing session and track my progress?
Yes, you can do that.To do this, you need to keep your work folder in a shared location such as a USB drive (or a cloud drive such as DropBox) that can be accessed from all your machines.
When you open an ETS file in ETS Viewer for the first time, it automatically creates a folder in your home directory (as governed by the user.home property). For example, if you open the OCP Java 11 question bank, it will create a folder named ETSWF_com_enthuware_ets_1z0-819 under c:\users\johndoe. It keeps all your data such as Progress Report, Notes, and test statuses in this folder. You can change the location of this folder by Right Clicking on the top node in the Test View tree. If you change it to an empty folder on your shared drive, you will be able to share all your data across multiple devices. If you have already started taking tests or creating notes and want to share those on other devices, just copy over the current work folder to your shared drive.
See this image to see and change the location of the work folder:
To take a backup of your work, you just need to backup this folder.
Important: If you use a shared folder, make sure you don't use multiple instances simultaneously. Since all the instances will try to modify the same files, the files may become corrupt and unrecoverable. Link to this FAQ
See answers without taking a test
Updated: 14 July 2018

Can I see answer to a question without sitting through a whole test?
Yes, absolutely. When you double click a test criteria node (for example, Test 1 under Standard Tests), it starts a regular Test. In this mode, you can’t see the answers before finishing the test because this mode is meant to simulate the actual test environment.
You can, however, view the questions in a test and answer them one by one, checking whether you answered a question correctly after answering each question. To do so, first of all make sure that "Show Answers by default" option in the Tools menu, in unchecked. If this option is checked, whenever you open a question outside of a test, the answer will be displayed and you won’t be able to attempt answering that question.
Now, instead of double clicking on a test criteria, do a right click and select Open option.
It will show you the details of the Test Criteria. On this window, at the bottom, there is a “View Questions” button.
This will pop up a list of all the questions in that test. Now, you can double click on any row to see that question and then use the Next/Previous buttons on the Question dialog to see other questions.
Now, you can answer the question and click on "Evaluate" to check whether you answered correctly and to see the answer.
Note that in this mode your responses are not saved anywhere and there is no scoring. Answering a question correctly or incorrectly in this mode does not change the question’s Leitner status either.
Leitner Mode
This is another way to take short tests and to see answers without finishing all the questions. Just double click Leitner Mode icon in the Study tree of ETS Viewer and then click on "How to use Leitner Mode" link on the right side to learn more about it. Do the Standard Tests and Objective wise Tests contain the same questions? Which one should I take?
Standard Tests and Objective wise Test are two different strategies for attempting the same questions.
Standard Tests are preconfigured tests that cover all the questions in the question bank. Each Standard Test contains questions from all the objectives. If you take all the Standard Tests, you would see all the available questions. Therefore, if you take an Objective wise test after taking all the Standard Tests, you will not see any new question.
You should take Standard Tests if you have already gone through a book and want to prepare for the final exam by attempting tests that are similar to the final exam.
Objective-wise Tests pick random questions from the question bank only for a given Exam Objective.
You should use these tests if you are studying from a book and want to attempt questions on a particular topic to solidify you understanding on the subject. If you take an Objective Test and then a Standard Tests, there is a high probability that you will see some of the questions that you have already seen on the Objective Test.
Some question banks may have Practice Tests as well. They pick random questions from the question bank only for a given Toughness Level. It might be useful for advanced users but we do not recommend this option.
Besides the above options, you can create your own tests under Custom Tests.
What should I do if I never want to repeat a question?
Take Standard Tests one by one. You will cover all the questions in the question bank and you will never see a duplicate. Link to this FAQAutomatic Updates

Is the question bank updated frequently? How do I get the updates?
We update the question bank immediately if we feel any improvement is needed or if we find any mistake in the material. Upon updation, we increment the version number of the question bank.
ETS Viewer will automatically notify you if a new version is available and it will also let you download the new version.
You may also manually download the question bank file (.ets file) from our website and replace your existing question bank file with it. Link to this FAQ
Is it possible to hide the number of correct options?
Updated: 14 July 2018
11945 hits
Yes, it is possible.
The pre-configured tests such as under Standard Tests, are configured to work like a real exam environment so you can't change these tests. However, you can create your own Test Environment to customize this behavior. To do this, right click on the top node of the Test View tree (where it shows the name of the question bank) and select "Create New Test Environment". On the resulting screen, you can configure various parameters. Uncheck the "Show Number of correct options" parameter and save the test environment. The screen will go away and a new node will be created at the bottom of the test view tree.
Now, right click on this newly created test environment and create new test criteria.
Right click on the newly created Test Criteria and select "Take this test" to start the test.
Is the Performance History stored? Can it be reset? Is it possible to lose it erroneously?
Updated: 02 April 2021

Performance History
Each test result including your responses to questions are stored and can be seen easily. However, Please try the trial version to see if the performance tracking matches your expectations.
Clearing History
When you open a question bank for the firs time, ETS Viewer creates a work folder under your home directory by default. For example, if you open 1z0-819 question bank, it will create C:\Users\<your user name>\ETSWF_com_enthuware_ets_1z0-819 folder. All your test test data including your tests, responses, notes, and progress report is stored here in different files. You can clear all your history just by deleting all the files in this folder.
You can also remove individual test attempts from ETS Viewer itself. (Right click on a test attempt and delete). But this will not affect the global average score that has already been computed.
Backing Up History
You can easily take the back just by copying the workfolder. You can even move your history to another machine by copying the same work folder. See this image to see and change the location of the work folder:
Except disk failure and manual deletion of work folder, there is no possiblity of the data ever getting lost. We haven't received a single complaint regarding loss of data. In fact, the design of the data storage is such that even a hard reboot will not cause the data to be lost. Cosmetic preferences (such as window size and location) are stored using Java Preferences API and on windows platform it usually goes to windows registry. This might be lost in case of registry corruption.
Is there any way to print all the questions and answers?
Updated: 14 July 2018
17426 hits
Short Answer: No, but you can print one question at a time.
Long Answer: Question display depends on what elements are currently visible. For example, a question view may or may not be showing answers and explanation depending on current use case. Further, display of a question is very different from the raw question data and raw data is not really usable (for the purpose of study). Therefore, printing all the questions at once is not supported. You can, however, print each question individually by clicking on the print icon on the top right corner of question view. Whatever is displayed, will be printed.
If you want to go through the questions off line in a book kind of format, we are working on developing Kindle/eBook version of our mock exams, which should be available very soon.
Note: ETS Editor, which is used to create Questions Banks, supports extracting out all the questions in whatever format you need.

However, free upgrades and support are available only up to 6 months after purchase so please keep your license safe in case you need it after 6 months. It cannot be retrieved from our server after six months of purchase and we do not provide any support after 6 months of purchase.
The Web/Mobile license expires after the subscription period. You will not be able to login after this period.

The license is not tied to any machine. It is tied to a customer. So you can use the same License Key on any machine you want to. If you have lost the License Key and are within the support period, you can supply the Orderid and Emailid in the automatic license tab (this is displayed when you open an ETS Question Bank) in ETS Viewer to let it download the license automatically.

Which version should I get - the Web/Mobile version or the Desktop version?
If you are planning to go through mock exams when you do not have access to your desktop/laptop, use the web version because you can use it on your mobile. It is perfect for studying during your commute.
If you prefer to study at your home/office where you have access to your machine, use the desktop version because it has several powerful features, such as customized tests, Leitner mode, and offine access, which are not present in the web version. Further, desktop license does not expire.
Content: The content is the same on both. Same questions, same tests.
Validity: Desktop license does not expire but Web Access expires after the purchased validity period (usually 6 months or 1 year).
Features: Both - Desktop and Web - allow you to take tests and view questions but desktop application has several additional features such as Leitner mode and ability to customizable tests.
Please try the trial versions before purchase. Trial is free.
What is Desktop version, what is Web/Mobile version?
Desktop version is a pure Java application. It runs on a Windows/Linux/Mac Laptop or Desktop. You need to download etsviewer.jar to your computer and then run it using the java command as explained in step By step instructions It DOES NOT work on Android/iOS phones or tabs.
Web/Mobile version is the version that you can access from any web browser by going to http://webets.enthuware.com. You don't have to install any special mobile app. Although it has been optimized to work on mobile devices, it works on all devices including Android, iPhone, iPad, and Windows/Linux/Mac.
All versions contain the same questions and tests but your usage data such as test results/scores are not synched between the Desktop and the Web version.Do I require internet connection for any version?
You don't need internet connection for the Desktop version. You DO need internet connection for Web version. Is the content i.e. the questions and explanations, same in all the versions??
Yes, the content is the same in all. However, features of the simulators are different. For example, the desktop version allows you to customize tests but Web version does not. Please try the trial versions to make sure you are comfortable with the version you intend to use before purchase. If I buy the software, can I repeat the tests? How long can I use the s/w and web access?
You can take any test any number of times in either of the access modes. However, access to Web/Mobile version is for a limited period only. So you cannot take tests on Web/Mobile version after the Web/Mobile license period expires.
Desktop license is not time limited. You can use it and take tests as long as you want. Customer support for Desktop version is for 6 months only. We do not provide any support whatsoever (installation or otherwise) after 6 months of purchase. If I buy the software, can I get updates when you update the software?
Yes. The Desktop application notifies the user if an update is available. It lets you download the update for free. Web version is updated at our end.
Questions about Kindle eBook
-
A few of our Java Certification question banks (not all) are available as ebooks on Amazon in Kindle format.
How can I do the tests on Kindle Edition?
Kindle version is just an ebook. You can do the tests as if the tests are printed on paper. It is not interactive. You have to check the answer and decide yourself whether you answered correctly or not and keep your own score. You can download the sample from Amazon to understand how exactly it can be used.If I buy the Kindle Edition (in mobi format), can I get updates when you update the content?
Yes, but they are a lot less frequent than the s/w version and we don't know when Amazon will push the update to your device. It is beyond our control. You need to request Amazon support to push the updated version to your account.Does the software's content cover exactly the same as the Kindle Edition (if available)?
Yes.

Lost my license key and password
Updated: 05 March 2023

Please note that we keep order information for six months after purchase only and our support is for this period only. But the desktop application license key will keep working. So, please keep the license key that we sent to you in email safe. It can be saved in a pure text file also.
If you have lost this license key, please enter your Orderid and Emailid in ETS Viewer's Automatic licensing tab and let it download the license key. Click on the Download button on that window after entering the orderid and emailid. Once it downloads the key, go to the Manual Licensing tab, copy the downloaded license key, and save it in a text file in your system for future use because it cannot be downloaded from our system 6 months after the purchase.
If you have lost the password to the web application, you may reset it from the web application main page itself. Enter your emailid and click on the Reset button. It will ask for your Order Id and reset the password to a random token string. Use this token string as the password. If you want to change the password, you can enter your emailid and this token string and click on "Change Password" button to change it.
If it has been more than six months after your purchase, we will be unable to provide the license key.
Refund Policy
How do I get a refund?
Updated: 07 August 2023

We provide full refund within 3 months of purchase in the following two cases -
1. If you passed any one of the Standard Tests contained in our Question Bank on first attempt and still failed the actual exam. Taking the same test multiple times gives you a false sense on confidence because you already know the answers.
We strongly advise you against taking the actual exam unless you've cleared all the Standard Tests of our Question Bank. If you fail a Standard Test, do not rush to take the next test. Study the topics on which you scored less from a book first and then attempt the next test. We will need your login details to verify your score.
2. If you find any three technical mistakes in our material.
Please try the trial version before purchase. It is exactly same as the full version except that it has less number of questions. The installation and licensing procedure for trial versions is also same so that there are no surprises when you purchase a full version.Important - We do not accept refund requests for application not working on Linux versions. Although we have tested the application on various Linux versions, there are just too many combinations of Kernel, Desktop environment, and JDK to test. Please try the trial version and make sure it works on your version of Linux before purchase. Link to this FAQ

We regularly enhance and improve our material. We also promptly fix any errors/mistakes that are reported by users. Upon any such change, we increase the version number of the Question Bank. ETS Viewer automatically checks the available version number with our server and if a higher version is available, it notifies the user about it. You can then download the latest Question Bank from the downloads page. There is no charge and no time limit for such updates.

A new version of the actual exam may be released any time by the vendor. When that happens, we also come out with a new version of our question bank to reflect the new exam. We provide free upgrades to existing customers up to 2 months of their purchase. For example, if you purchased OCP Java 11 simulator from us today and if Oracle releases OCP Java 12 certification exam within 2 months of your purchase, you can ask for a free upgrade, provided we do have an upgraded version available for sale.
Free Upgrade is not applicable if Oracle already provides a Certification Exam for which we do not have a simulator at the time of your purchase.

I want to purchase but I am concerned about security.

You have a valid concern. With every online transaction there is some security risk involved. Even big companies such as Yahoo have had a security breach. To mitigate this concern, we have the following process -
- At no time do we, at Enthuware, receive your credit card information. So there is no question of it being stolen from us. We just don't have it.
- Your credit card information is actually received and processed by FastSpring, a company that specializes in secure processing of online orders. It follows all the regulations associated with secure credit card processing. Further, even FastSpring does not store your credit card information after the order is complete. Hence, it cannot be retrieved by anyone later on. We, at Enthuware, receive just your name, emailid, and address after your card is charged. This information is used to generate the license.
- The credit card information is transmitted over HTTPS, which ensures that it cannot be stolen while in transit.
- Most orders do not need manual verification but some orders may trigger fraud check and for these orders a manual verification may be required and you may receive a phone call from FastSpring. For example, this may happen when the billing address and the location of your IP don't match. There are several other such checks, which reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions.

Usually, when an order placed using a debit card is cancelled, it is cancelled because the issuing bank declined the charge. Please check with your bank whether it allows international purchases in USD on your card.
